The two NKC-135As have been extensively modified to undertake electronic warfare simulation duties and are reported to carry as much as 12,500 lb (5670 kg) of specialized EW equipment. Most of this is housed internally but both aircraft feature under wing pods containing mission-related apparatus and the standard nose mounted weather radar is thought to have given way to sea-search radar.
