The DHC-2 Beaver is a utility transport aircraft, which first flew in August 1947. The Beaver won the 1951 joint US Army/Air Force design contest for a new liaison aircraft, and by the early 60’s, a total of 1,691 Beavers were built. The DHC-2 switched production to a turbo prop version called the DHC-2 Mk III, powered by a 550-shp (410.30-kW) Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A-6A. Few Beavers now remain in military use and are probably limited to nine in Colombia, two in Haiti and one in Turkey. The de Havilland Canada DHC-2 Beaver specification, included a maximum rate of climb at sea level of 1,020 ft (311 m) per minute, and a maximum level speed of 5,000 ft 139 kt.
