The F-5 Freedom Fighter set records for its prolonged period of production and its length of time in service. It proved to be one of the most successful export products of the US aircraft industry during the entire post-war period, serving with many of the world’s airforces. The F-5 was developed as a lightweight fighter and was purchased by the US Air Force, US Navy the and Marine Corps. The F-5 is reckoned to have flown some 3,500 sorties, logging more than 4,000 hours of combat time.
