The simple and economical Piper Cub is one of the best loved light aircraft of all time and helped make flying an affordable pastime for thousands of pilots in the years both before and after World War II.
The Cub began life as the Taylor E2 Tiger Kitten, which was powered by a tiny 20hp Brownbach engine. It was grossly underpowered and the Taylor Brothers Airplane Company went bankrupt before a more powerful engine could be found.
