The Morane-Saulnier Type AI is a single-seat, single-engine parasol fighter. Although highly rated at the time of its first flight in the late summer of 1917, the radically configured AI proved to be a disappointment once it reached frontline service early the following year. Although over 1000 were constructed by Morane-Saulnier, the type had been relegated to the advanced training role by mid-May 1918, being replaced by the more conventional Spad 13.C1.
