The T-38A Talon resulted from developments made on Northrop’s private venture N-156 light fighter. The US Navy has operated the Talon in modest quantities and even went so far as to acquire some on loan for training duties of a highly specialized nature. Although once in fairly widespread use as an aggressor aircraft, the T-38A Talon now serves only with the Test Pilot’s School. Navy acquisition of the Talon began with an initial batch of five aircraft that was diverted from USAF contracts, for service with the Test Pilot’s School.
