In January 1982, the US Navy ordered the TH-57C, which is a new production, advanced instrument trainer bought in conjunction with the TH-57B. This is also based on the Jet Ranger III and is a somewhat more sophisticated machine featuring full IFR instrumentation. This allows mastery of more complex skills in anticipation of moving on to operational helicopters such as the SH-60B Seahawk and AH-1 Sea Cobra. There were 55 initial orders for this model, which was eventually raised to 89 with the last being delivered in December 1984.
